The Orlando Magic hit rock bottom in 2012-13, as they finished with the worst record in the NBA (20-62). The Magic finished in last place in the Southeast Division, 46 games behind the Miami Heat. That being said, the Magic were not without bright spots in 2012-13 as a lot of their younger players stepped up. The future is bright for the Magic, but the playoffs are pretty far down the road. Here is a look at the players that made the biggest impacts for the Magic in 2012-13, in my opinion:
TEAM MVP: Nikola Vucevic – 22-year old center Nikola Vucevic was part of the Dwight Howard trade and he looked pretty good in 2012-13 for the Magic. He played in 77 games (all starts) in his first year with the Magic and he averaged 33.2 minutes, 13.1 points, 11.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.0 blocked shot per game. Vucevic also had 46 double-doubles last year as he was dominating in the paint. He is a player the Magic are going to build the future around.
BIGGEST SURPRISE: Tobias Harris – 20-year old forward Tobias Harris was acquired from the Bucks in the J.J. Redick deal and he was outstanding for the Magic. He played in 27 games (20 starts) for the Magic last year and he averaged 36.1 minutes, 17.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.4 blocked shots per game. Harris played in 55 games (34 starts) overall last year for the Bucks and Magic in which he averaged 23.6 minutes, 11.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. He also had 9 double-doubles last year. Harris will likely team with Vucevic to give the Magic a nice frontcourt in the future.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: Hedo Turkoglu – 34-year old small forward Hedo Turkoglu sucked for the Magic this year and then he got suspended for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs. Turkoglu played in 11 games (1 start) for the Magic last year and he averaged 17.2 minutes, 2.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He only shot 26.4% from the floor, 4.2% from three point range and 50% from the free throw line last year. I will be shocked if Turkoglu ever plays in another game for the Magic.
